The inaugural Women in Aviation Midwest networking event is being hailed as a “resounding success” by the organisers, as over 150 women were in attendance from across the region.
The event is a first-of-its-kind industry initiative, which was sponsored by the Shannon Airport Group, was held in the Shannon Aviation Museum where women working in the aviation and aerospace sectors from Limerick and Clare came together to collaborate and form synergies.
Commenting on the success of the night, Chair of the organising committee, Jane Magill of the Shannon Aviation Museum, said, “We were blown away with the response to last night’s event, which clearly highlights the enormous contribution women are making to aviation in this region and nationally. The resounding success of the evening clearly demonstrates, there are hundreds of women here in the Mid-West region with a passion for aviation who are forging careers in various roles across the sector. It was wonderful to bring them together on International Women’s Day with the launch of our Women in Aviation Midwest networking group.”
Mary Considine, CEO of the Shannon Airport Group, who opened the event, said, “Women have played powerful roles in aviation since the dawn of the industry and its vital that female leadership in the sector is championed, to encourage and attract more women to the industry. This is a platform which can support women in the industry, give them an opportunity to learn from their peers, collaborate, grow, and create friendships.
“I’d like to congratulate the founding committee members and its chair, Jane Magill from the Shannon Aviation Museum, for driving this initiative and giving it wings. Jane has a super team onboard without whom today would not have been possible: Donna Marie O’Neill from Airborne Capital; Caroline Moore from Specialist Aviation; Samantha Harding from SILC; and our own colleague from the Shannon Airport Group, Rita Meehan.”
