Over 67,000 passengers expected at Shannon Airport for June Bank Holiday, up 11%
Tuesday 26th May 2026: Shannon Airport is set for another bumper June Bank Holiday period as it gets ready to welcome over 67,000 passengers, an increase of 11% on the same period in 2025.
The airport is expecting this weekend to be the busiest of the year to date as the summer holiday travel period gets into full swing. The figures point to continued strong demand and a solid start to the summer travel season at the airport, with over 2 million seats available via Shannon Airport this summer.
Commenting, Ray O’Driscoll, CEO of The Shannon Airport Group, said: “Shannon is experiencing very strong demand this June Bank Holiday period, with over 67,000 passengers expected, up 11% on last year. It marks a very positive start to the summer at the airport.
“We now have our largest route network in over 17 years, with 40 services in operation this year, including new routes to Rome, Warsaw, Madrid, Poznań and Frankfurt. Our transatlantic services to New York, Newark, Boston and Chicago also remain a key part of the programme, giving passengers across the region excellent choice this summer.
“Just as importantly, these services are benefiting the wider region. They bring significant numbers of visitors directly into the West of Ireland, supporting tourism and hospitality businesses along the Wild Atlantic Way and beyond. This, in turn, has a clear and positive impact on jobs and local economies across the region.”
The airport is seeing strong demand across traditional summer sun routes, with destinations like Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Lanzarote attracting significant interest from passengers in the West of Ireland and increasingly from across the country, alongside a consistent transatlantic programme to the United States.
Shannon Airport makes travel easy, with five convenient car parks located from just a 30 second to seven minute walk to the terminal. At security, passengers can keep 100ml liquids and electronics in their bags, helping ensure a faster, hassle-free experience.
Passengers are also encouraged to arrive early to enjoy shopping at the world’s first airport Duty Free, featuring luxury brands alongside the best of Irish beauty, home and wellness in the Curated by Shannon range.
Travellers can download the Shannon Airport mobile app, which provides real-time flight updates, gate and baggage information, and an interactive terminal map. The app also allows users to book parking, access route information and locate their car on return using the ‘Pin My Car’ feature, while an augmented reality tool can be used to check cabin bag sizes in advance of travel.
