Shannon Airport is Ireland's Fastest-Growing Major Airport for Fourth Consecutive Month and Across Summer 2026
Wednesday 30th September 2026: Recent figures published by the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation (ITIC) show that Shannon Airport recorded the strongest passenger growth among Ireland's major airports in August, with passenger traffic increasing by almost 9% compared with the same month last year.
The performance means Shannon was Ireland's fastest-growing major airport throughout the entire Summer 2026 season, having also recorded the highest rate of growth in May, June and July.
The latest figures come on the back of a milestone summer for the airport, which welcomed over one million passengers between May and August, representing an 11.5% increase on the same period in 2025.
Speaking today, Niall Kearns, Airport Director of Shannon Airport said: "To be Ireland's fastest-growing major airport for four consecutive months, and throughout Summer 2026, is a tremendous achievement for Shannon Airport.
More than one million passengers chose Shannon this summer, reflecting the strong demand for our expanding network of 40 routes, and the unique hassle-free experience we offer.
This growth is a testament to the support of our passengers, airline partners and the dedication of our team. We look forward to building on this momentum as we enter the winter season and continue to strengthen connectivity from Shannon."
The strong summer performance comes as Shannon Airport continues to enhance its international connectivity, with a new non-stop Shannon-Toronto service with Air Canada due to commence in 2027. This additional route will build on a transatlantic network that offered five daily US services during the peak summer season.
